The first announcement of the session was the introduction of Zero Day Quest, a hacking challenge for the global security community. It will be the "largest of its kind" with rewards in the value of $4 million. This hackathon offers two distinct opportunities:
- Research Challenge: Open to everyone, this challenge invites participants to explore and solve complex security issues, fostering a community of innovation and collaboration.

2. Copilot Actions to help simplifying your workday
Described by Nadella as "Outlook Rules for the age of AI," the introduction of Copilot Actions has the potential to be a game-changer for workplace productivity.
Copilot Actions allows you to 'delegate' tasks to Copilot. Through customisable prompt templates that can be automated, and are triggered by specific events to gather information and present it in specified formats, such as emails or Word documents. These actions allow you to set up workflows that automate routine tasks, making it easier to manage your workday. That might be sorting emails, scheduling meetings, or generating reports.
3. New Copilot Agents released within Microsoft 365
Microsoft Copilot is enhancing its suite of agents with new AI-powered agents that can take care of the hard work for you, improving efficiency and collaboration. Some of the new Copilot Agents include:
- Facilitator Agent in Microsoft Teams: This agent can be added to Teams meetings to act as the Faciltator for you. It will moderate discussions and keep the focus on key topics, ensuring productive and efficient meetings.
- Project Manager Agent in Microsoft Planner: Think of this as an AI Project Manager; this agent is capable of creating new project plans from scratch, overseeing projects, and keeping them on track.
- SharePoint Copilot Agent: Every SharePoint site will now feature a Copilot agent, assisting with content management and site administration, making SharePoint more user-friendly and efficient.
These agents represent a significant step forward in integrating AI into everyday workflows.
4. Copilot Analytics to measure the business impact of Copilot
Another major highlight was the announcement of Copilot Analytics, a way to measure the business impact of Copilot. This tool provides insights into how Copilot usage translates into tangible business outcomes across various departments such as sales, marketing, and finance. It will offer a dashboard with stats for Copilot readiness, adoption, impact and learning categories. As well as a reporting tool for IT administrators.
As Satya Nadella aptly put it, "It's really a question of change management." Copilot Analytics will help businesses understand the impact of AI. And really optimise its use.
The power of AI lies in training and empowerment
Satya Nadella concluded the keynote with a powerful message about the importance of training and education when it comes to AI. He emphasized that for AI to truly succeed, people need to be equipped with the necessary skills.
Nadella stated, "We've helped train millions in AI and digital skills. And we're committed to training millions more. Because learning these skills will change people's lives. In fact, it already has."
Integrating AI into our daily lives and work is not really about technology - it's about people.
The advancements announced at Microsoft Ignite 2024 are a testament to this vision.
